The Key Lime Festival is held in Key West over a weekend closest to 4th of July, and has lots of Key Limed themed activities at the festival. There will also be plenty of Key Lime flavored foods, including soups, martinis, and pies. This event is family friendly, and takes place throughout various locations around the island.
Some of the events include making the World’s Largest Key Lime Pie on Greene Street. This gives everyone a chance to be involved in the record breaking event, while also getting the chance to take a piece of the pie home. Slices are priced $2 at this event, and you can even get a picture taken with the big pie and take home a souvenir t-shirt. Also over on Greene Street, is a pie eating contest for those who really love eating Key Lime pies. Ten contestants will face off as they dive their faces into Key Lime pies to win the the title of world champion!
If eating pie and standing in the hot sun is not your style, than the Key Lime Cocktail Sip and Stroll event may be perfect for you and your party. During this event, visitors are encouraged become a judge of local bars, as they compete to get the title of the Best Key Lime Cocktail title. For just $20, you get 20 tastings and a bar hopping adventure between the Green Parrot, Kelly’s Caribbean, Island Dogs, and The Other Side Bar.
The Key Lime Pie Festival’s has two events that are world famous. One of them being the highly competitive event of the Key Lime Pie Championships. Visitors of this event will be able to judge a wide array of bakers that entered this contest, including restaurants, professional chefs, and home bakers. This event is fun because there is a People’s Choice vote, and can get to try up to 5 different slices.
The grand finale is the Miss Key Lime Pie USA, where contestants put on more of a show than a beauty pageant. Ten tart finalists will compete for the crown in an unconventional way, with lots of dancing, and excitement. The contestants are judge in two portions of the pageant: the Costume and Talent section, and the Vintage Fashion Question and Answer section. This competition is sure to give laughs and great entertainment for both the locals, and visitors.
